Basic Functions
Participates at State Quarterly meetings as a representative of members of the local chapter to
review, revise, and establish State policies for the mutual benefit of the local chapter members.
Assists elected officers (State Executive Committee) and staff executive (Larry Vinson, etc.) in
carrying out their duties and responsibilities. Works in partnership with the State Executive
committee and staff executive.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend the Meetings
- Chapter Planning Session for the upcoming Year.
- Alabama Council State AIA Leadership Conference / Councilor Orientation
- Monthly Chapter Executive Committee Meetings.
- Chapter Meetings - approx. one per month.
- Pre-Meetings: Councilor/Executive Committee Quarterly Meeting before each
- Alabama Council Meeting
- Alabama Council Quarterly Meetings
- State Legislative Summit - Montgomery
- State Convention
- Report to constituency - see "relationships" below.
- Assist in maintaining accurate membership database.
- Understand and participate in the execution of the Council Strategic Plan

Relationships
- Responsible to the local chapter members for seeing that the State Council's programs and policies reflect the needs and aspirations of the membership. Represent and interact with the local membership.
- In the spirit of representing the local chapter membership, the Councilor can also act as a liaison to local industry and institutions gaining knowledge of trends and issues that impact the members. Also, this will allow for the opportunity to further communicate the value of Architecture and Architect's services to the public.
